The holiday region of the Hohe Tauern National Park has roughly 120 alpine farming areas where over 7,000 Pinzgau cattle graze and hikers are welcomed and spoilt by the hosts. When the alpine people and herdsmen move into their alpine huts at the beginning of June, the alpine summer returns to the country with its warm sunny days, fine Pinzgau delicacies, festivities and long evenings under starry skies, which seem incredibly close at over 1,000 metres above sea level.
As autumn creeps into the region, the traditional time has come when farmers in the Salzburg region gather in the harvest, and once this heroic task is done, everyone can look back on a successful summer and the celebrations can begin. We still celebrate the Harvest Festival at this time in the Zell am See-Kaprun region from early September to early November, which is the best time to reflect on customs, traditions and original craftsmanship.
Every year in August THE IRONMAN triathlon event starts with a plunge into the crystal-clear, pristine water of the Zeller See Lake in the Salzburg region. Zell am See-Kaprun is an area made for 1.9 km of swimming, 90 km of cycling and 21.1 km of running, as you plough across the lake, leap onto the saddle of your bike over the fabulous mountain routes and then put on your running shoes to set off along the shores of the Zeller See.
There’s something for every athlete with water sports in the Zeller See Lake, cycle tours with our mountain bikes or beach volley ball matches right in front of the hotel.
Wonderful hikes for the whole family; a visit to our Salzburg hut on the Kitzsteinhorn mountain is an unforgettable experience.
