The holiday region of the Hohe Tauern National Park has roughly 120 alpine farming areas where over 7,000 Pinzgau cattle graze and hikers are welcomed and spoilt by the hosts. When the alpine people and herdsmen move into their alpine huts at the beginning of June, the alpine summer returns to the country with its warm sunny days, fine Pinzgau delicacies, festivities and long evenings under starry skies, which seem incredibly close at over 1,000 metres above sea level.
